I will discuss our discovery of TXNIP as an important factor in diabetes-associated death of insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells and the beneficial effects of TXNIP inhibition in mouse models. I will then share the findings from our clinical trial in type 1 diabetes using an established drug (verapamil) to inhibit TXNIP.
